For two weeks each August, the Namaqualand desert transforms into the greatest wildflower spectacle on Earth, millions of orange, yellow, and white daisies covering the Bokkeveld and Knersvlakte as far as the eye can see.

- Cape Town
The route heads north up the West Coast. First wildflowers appear in the fynbos around Darling within an hour of the city.
- Darling
Fynbos village hosting the Wildflower Show each September. Evita se Perron, South Africa's quirkiest political satire venue, is here.
- Vanrhynsdorp
Gateway to the Knersvlakte, a quartz-pebble plain named 'gnashing of teeth' by early farmers. Home to succulents found nowhere else on Earth.
- Vanrhyns Pass
A dramatic escarpment road climbing from the Knersvlakte to the Bokkeveld plateau. Views back over the quartz plain are vast and otherworldly.
- Nieuwoudtville
The bulb capital of the world. The Bokkeveld erupts in freesias, lachenalias, and the world's densest wild gladiolus population each August.
- Garies
A small Namaqualand town surrounded by rocky koppies ablaze with orange daisies in peak bloom. A classic N7 flower-route stop.
- Kamieskroon
A small village with a legendary flower-spotting community. Skilpad Wildflower Reserve nearby is often the epicentre of the bloom in peak years.
- Springbok
Capital of Namaqualand. In a good rain year the hills turn solid orange with daisies, the most iconic image of South African spring.
