Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 12, 2026

RoadAtlas respects visitor privacy. This policy explains what information may be collected when you use the website.

Information We Collect

RoadAtlas may collect information you voluntarily provide, such as an email address when subscribing to the newsletter or contacting us, and feedback you submit about a route.

The site may also collect basic usage data through analytics tools, such as pages viewed, device type, approximate location derived from IP address, browser, and referral source.

How We Use Information

We use information to operate the website, improve routes and content, respond to messages, send newsletters when requested, protect the site from abuse, and understand aggregate usage patterns.

Third-Party Services

RoadAtlas uses third-party services for maps, place data, photos, hosting, newsletter forms, payments, optional analytics, and advertising attribution. Optional Google Analytics, Reddit attribution, and affiliate measurement load only after you accept them.

Cookies And Local Storage

RoadAtlas uses local storage to remember interface preferences, newsletter prompt dismissal, your analytics choice, and short-lived device copies of personalization drafts and results. Supabase stores an expiring sign-in token in browser storage. Personalization caches are tied to the signed-in account and cleared when you sign out or delete the account. Optional analytics, attribution pixels, and affiliate measurement load only after you accept, in every region.

Accounts And Personalization

If you sign in, we store your email address (or Google profile email if you sign in with Google), an internal user ID, and any profile details you choose to add (display name, country, bio). Auth is handled by Supabase. The browser stores an expiring Supabase session token in local storage; it is not an HTTP-only cookie.

When you use AI route personalization, we store the preferences you submit (dates, interests, group composition, dietary and mobility needs, and free-text notes), the base route you picked, and the generated result. Each personalization is private to your account unless you choose Share. A share link remains publicly accessible to anyone with the link until you select Stop sharing, remove that shared trip, or delete your account.

AI Sub-Processor (OpenAI)

The personalization feature sends your route preferences and the canonical base route to OpenAI to generate the result. We do not include your email, name, or direct account identifier. OpenAI processes API data under its API data-usage terms and does not use API inputs or outputs to train its models by default. AI output can be wrong or out of date; verify roads, closures, borders, opening hours, accessibility, and safety with official sources before traveling.

Payments (Stripe)

Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe. When you subscribe, Stripe collects your payment details (card number, billing address, country) directly. We do not see or store your full card number. From Stripe, we receive a customer ID, a subscription status, the plan you chose, and the renewal date, which we store on your profile so the right plan applies on the site. Refunds and cancellations are managed through the Stripe Customer Portal accessible from your account page.

Your Choices

You can unsubscribe from newsletter emails using the link in those messages, stop individual public shares from your trip or account page, and manage billing from profile settings. Account deletion immediately cancels an active subscription, ends access, removes stored personalizations and public shares, and erases the sign-in record. Unused prepaid time is not retained or prorated when you delete the account. Contact contact@roadatlas.app for privacy questions, export requests, or deletion help.
