Highway 1, Florida
United States
US-1 traces Florida's Atlantic spine from the Georgia border to Miami Beach, through the Golden Isles, historic St Augustine, Kennedy Space Center, the Space Coast, and Miami's art deco shore. Not to be confused with the Keys Overseas Highway; this is Florida's forgotten Atlantic coast road through lighthouse towns, rocket launch pads, and Art Deco glamour.

- Amelia Island
A barrier island of Spanish moss and Victorian architecture that has flown eight flags. Fort Clinch's Civil War fortifications rise above Cumberland Sound at the island's northern tip.
- St. Augustine
The oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the US, founded 1565. The coquina-stone Castillo de San Marcos, begun 1672, stands on the harbour exactly as built.
- Daytona Beach
Thirty-seven km of hard-packed beach where land speed records fell in the 1920s before NASCAR was born here in 1948. The beach itself remains legally driveable at low tide.
- Kennedy Space Center
Apollo 11 lifted off from here on 16 July 1969. The Saturn V hall, Space Shuttle Atlantis, and active SpaceX launch pads make this the definitive spaceflight site on Earth.
- Cocoa Beach
The Space Coast's surf town, where dolphins ride bow waves within sight of launch complexes. Lori Wilson Park's coastal hammock forest frames a beach with a retro 1960s character.
- Palm Beach
America's most gilded resort. Henry Flagler's 1902 Whitehall mansion anchors Worth Avenue's arcades and the Breakers hotel in enduring Gilded Age extravagance.
- Miami Beach Art Deco District
Eight hundred Depression-era Art Deco buildings on the National Register make Ocean Drive the world's largest such concentration. Pastel facades and neon signs end the road in style.
