- Whakatane
ニュージーランドでも特に日照に恵まれた町のひとつで、48 km沖合のBay of Plentyからそびえる活動中の硫黄火山Whakaariへのボートツアーの出発点。
- Opotiki
East Capeへの玄関口で、SH35がBay of Plentyを離れ、北島最東部をめぐる330 kmの人里離れたループへと入る場所。
- East Cape Lighthouse
ニュージーランド最東端の灯台。太平洋の上まで700段の階段を登ってたどり着き、毎日新しい日の出を地球上で最初に見る地点を見渡せます。
- Tikitiki
St Mary's Churchがある場所。ニュージーランドでも屈指の装飾を誇るマオリの集会所のひとつで、精緻な彫刻とtukutukuパネルがNgati Porouの第一次世界大戦の兵士たちを讃えています。
- Tolaga Bay Wharf
全長660メートル、ニュージーランド最長の埠頭が、East Capeの人里離れた湾から太平洋へと伸びています。1929年に建設され最近修復された、SH35の印象的なランドマークです。

毎日最初に太陽を見る世界初の都市。素晴らしいビーチに加え、MatawheroやMilltonを含む、過小評価されがちなシャルドネとゲヴュルツトラミネールのワイナリーがあります。
