ニュージーランド南部を大きくU字に巡る長い旅。ダニーデンのスコットランドの歴史から、キャトリンズの荒々しいサーフビーチ、海岸の断崖や滝を経て、インバーカーギル、さらに人里離れたフィヨルドランドと、ダウトフル・サウンドでのシーカヤックの大自然へと続きます。南島で最も走行量の少ない偉大な道です。

- Dunedin
南のエディンバラと呼ばれる、ビクトリアン・ゴシック様式の大学都市。オタゴ半島には、世界で唯一の本土にあるロイヤル・アルバトロスのコロニーがあり、その下にはペンギンの浜辺が広がります。
- Nugget Point
1869年築の灯台の下にある、波に洗われた玄武岩の小島群。オットセイ、フッカー・シーライオン、キイロアイトウ、ヘラサギでにぎわっています。NZでも屈指の劇的な岬のひとつ。
- Papatowai
キャトリンズのサーフと森の村。Cathedral Caves の、海が削り出した全長30メートルの空間への拠点で、アクセスできるのは干潮時のみ。近くの Lost Gypsy Gallery も必見です。
- Curio Bay
1億8000万年前の化石林で、波に打たれる海岸で干潮時に姿を現します。キイロアイトウは毎晩海から戻り、上の海岸草地で巣を作ります。
- Invercargill
ニュージーランド最南端の街。平らな通りが続き、静かに意外性があります。Bluff のオイスター・シーズンは3月から8月で、全国から本格的な食の巡礼者を引き寄せます。
- Manapouri
湖を船で渡り、Wilmot Pass をバスで越えてたどり着く Doubtful Sound への玄関口。地下の Manapouri Power Station は、水面下の岩盤をくり抜いて造られています。
- Doubtful Sound
Milford より3倍長く、はるかに訪問者の少ない Doubtful Sound は、Lake Manapouri を船で渡って向かいます。バンドウイルカ、オットセイ、ほぼ完全な大自然の静寂が待っています。
- Te Anau
NZ最大の国立公園、フィヨルドランドへの玄関口。Kepler Track と Milford Track はどちらも近くから始まり、Te Anau Glowworm Caves は湖の西岸の下にあります。
