アルンウィックからリンディスファーンへ

ノーサンバーランドの景観豊かな海岸道路を、アルンウィックからA1を北へ進み、ホーリーアイランド・オブ・リンディスファーンへ向かうルート。バンバラ城、シーハウズ港、そして干潮時にのみホーリーアイランドとつながる土手道を通りながら、英国でも最も美しい未開発の海岸線のひとつを走ります。リンディスファーン修道院跡は11月から1月まで閉鎖されます。

- Alnwick Castle
イングランドを代表する中世の城のひとつで、ハリー・ポッター初期2作品ではホグワーツとして登場し、ノーサンバーランド公の本拠地でもあります。隣のBarter Booksは古本の大聖堂のような場所です。
- Seahouses
ファーン諸島へのボートツアーの出発地です。4月から7月にかけては、ハイイロアザラシ、ツノメドリ、キョクアジサシが岩場を埋め尽くします。グレース・ダーリングは1815年に近くで生まれました。
- Bamburgh Castle
玄武岩の断崖の上、3 kmにわたる人影のない砂浜を見下ろすノルマン様式の要塞で、沖合にはファーン諸島、地平線にはリンディスファーンが見えます。イングランドでも特に劇的な場所に建つ城のひとつです。
- Lindisfarne
聖エイダンが635年にここで修道院を創設し、リンディスファーン福音書はこの島で装飾写本として制作されました。土手道は1日に2回水没するため、渡る前に潮位表を確認してください。
