- Christchurch
Garden City を出て、西へ Canterbury Plains を横断します。走りやすい道路と広々とした農地が、その先のアルプスの景観への移り変わりを演出します。
- Castle Hill Basin
淡い石灰岩の巨礫と大きく開けた空の景色が点在する広い盆地。丘へ登る前から、荒々しく彫刻されたような景観が広がります。
- Kura Tawhiti Conservation Area
風化した巨大な岩の造形や、短い tussock のトレイルの間を歩いてみましょう。ルート沿いでも特に印象的な路傍の風景のひとつです。
- Arthur's Pass Village
急峻な峰とブナ林に囲まれた小さなアルプスの村。短い散策、コーヒー、山の眺めを楽しむ拠点として最適です。
- Devils Punchbowl Waterfall
少し登ると、原生林を抜けて落ちる迫力ある滝にたどり着きます。水しぶき、鳥のさえずり、そして吊り橋が印象的です。
- Otira Viaduct Lookout
急な谷を縫うように伸びる有名な高架橋の上でひと休み。土木技術と山の背景が、サウスアイランドらしい定番の撮影スポットをつくっています。
- Jacksons
山々が次第に熱帯雨林へとやわらいでいく West Coast の静かな集落。西へ向かう最後の行程の前に便利な中継地点です。
- Greymouth
ニュージーランドのサウスアイランド西海岸で最大の町、荒々しい West Coast で締めくくります。峠を越えれば、海の空気と熱帯雨林がアルプスの峰々に取って代わります。

冬は雪、ブラックアイス、そして峠越えの道路封鎖が時折発生するため、出発前に NZTA の道路状況を確認してください。Canterbury を離れると燃料やサービスは限られ、Southern Alps では天候が急変することがあります。
