- Palermo
シチリアの州都では、アラブ・ノルマン様式の教会がギリシャの基礎の上にビザンチン・モザイクと重なっています。バッラロの露店市場は地中海で最も混沌としており、ストリートフードはイタリアでも屈指です。
- Valley of the Temples
海の上にあるアーモンドの木立の谷に並ぶ、紀元前5世紀のギリシャ神殿7基。ギリシャにあるどの遺跡よりも保存状態が良好です。コンコルディア神殿は597年に教会となったため、完全な姿で残っています。
- Villa Romana del Casale
4世紀のローマ時代の邸宅で、3,500㎡の床一面にモザイクが完全な状態で残り、有名な「ビキニ・ガールズ」のモザイクや60mに及ぶ「大狩り」の場面もあります。ほかに類を見ないユネスコの遺跡です。
- Ragusa Ibla
1693年の地震後に劇的な岩壁の上へ再建されたバロック都市で、54の黄金色の石灰岩の教会と邸宅があります。テレビシリーズ『インスペットーレ・モンタルバーノ』の舞台です。
- Syracuse
かつて古代世界最大の都市でした。ギリシャ劇場では今も公演が行われ、オルティージャ島には5世紀紀元前の神殿が大聖堂の壁の中に組み込まれています。
- Mount Etna
標高3,329mのヨーロッパ最高の活火山。2001年と2002年の溶岩流の道がシルヴェストリ火口のそばを通り、黒い火山性土壌のワインはイタリアのワイン造りの新たな最前線です。
- Taormina
崖の上に建つギリシャ・ローマ劇場で、舞台の背景にはエトナ山、その下にはイオニア海が広がります。D.H.ロレンス、ゲーテ、トルーマン・カポーティもここに住んでいました。
