Маршрут начинается с пересечения границы США и Мексики в Тихуане, для которого нужен действующий паспорт, а к югу от Энсенады требуется временное разрешение на ввоз автомобиля. Highway 1 полностью асфальтирована, но во многих местах узкая, без обочин, с минимальным освещением и очень большими перерывами между заправками и сервисами; возьмите с собой запас топлива, воду и аварийный набор для дороги.
