- Fort Portal

- Crater Lake Region
A chain of green volcanic lakes sits in rolling hills south of town. The road bends past terraces, forest, and tea fields.
- Kasese
Busy Rift Valley hub framed by the Rwenzori Mountains. Expect markets, trucks, and a lively roadside town atmosphere.
- Queen Elizabeth National Park
Wide savanna, crater lakes, and wildlife-rich plains line the route. Keep watch for elephants, antelope, and roadside viewpoints.
- Ishaka
A practical stop for meals, fuel, and a short break from the road. Traffic and trading activity pick up here.
- Mbarara
One of western Uganda's largest towns, known for dairy farms and roadside energy. It is a useful overnight or lunch stop.
- Kisoro
Mountain town near the southwest borderlands, with cool air and steep scenery. The road narrows as the forested hills rise.
- Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Misty forest slopes and deep valleys mark the final approach. This is the gateway to Uganda's gorilla trekking lodges.

Road conditions can be slow and potholed, especially after rain, so allow extra time and avoid night driving. If you plan gorilla trekking in Bwindi, permits should be booked well in advance and the final lodge transfer may be on steep, narrow roads.
