- Punta Loyola
風にさらされた大西洋岸。Ruta 40はここから、アンデスの背骨に沿って5,000kmの登りを始めます。10月と11月にはマゼランペンギンが断崖に巣を作ります。
- El Calafate
ロス・グラシアレス国立公園と、幅5km・湖面から60mの高さにそびえるペリト・モレノ氷河への玄関口。地球上で数少ない前進する氷河のひとつです。
- El Chaltén
フィッツ・ロイとセロ・トーレの花崗岩の尖峰のふもとにある、アルゼンチンのトレッキングの中心地。Ruta 40から短い支線で行けます。ラグーナ・デ・ロス・トレスのハイキングは、パタゴニアで最高の日帰りコースです。
- Perito Moreno
ラゴ・ブエノス・アイレス、南米で2番目に大きい湖の近くにある、Ruta 40沿いの砂ぼこりにまみれたパタゴニアのサービスタウン。ここでは風速がたびたび100km/hを超え、波板の店先を鳴らします。
- Esquel

- Mendoza
標高750mのアルゼンチンのワインの都。ルハン・デ・クージョのマルベック畑が、雪を頂くアンデスへ向かって広がります。西には、アジア以外で最高峰のアコンカグア（6,961m）がそびえます。
- Cafayate
トロンテスのワインの町で、カブラダ・デ・ラス・コンチャスを通ってたどり着きます。50kmにわたる赤い砂岩が、パイプオルガン、円形劇場、そして悪魔の喉笛の渓谷へと彫り込まれています。
- Salta
アルゼンチンで最も美しい植民都市。9 de Julio広場の周囲には、保存状態の良い18世紀のピンク色の建物、カテドラル、カビルドが並びます。ペーニャでは夜通しサンバとチャカレーラが演奏されます。
