- Adelaide
La capitale del South Australia e la porta d’ingresso meridionale della Stuart Highway. Fai rifornimento qui prima della lunga traversata verso l’outback.
- Port Augusta
Una città di svincolo battuta dal vento dove la highway gira davvero verso nord. È l’ultima tappa pratica per carburante, cibo e provviste.
- Coober Pedy
Una città dell’opale scavata nel deserto, con case sotterranee e strade dall’aspetto lunare. Sembra un avamposto di frontiera in ogni direzione.
- Alice Springs
Il centro più noto del Red Centre, circondato da catene ocra e luce desertica. Spezza il viaggio con negozi, gallerie e servizi.
- Tennant Creek
Una piccola città mineraria nel cuore del Territory. È una tappa notturna utile tra le grandi distanze dell’outback.
- Katherine
Una cittadina settentrionale accogliente, dove il paesaggio fluviale comincia a sostituire il deserto. È l’ultima grande tappa prima del Top End.
- Darwin
L’arrivo tropicale sul Timor Sea, lontano dall’interno arido che hai appena attraversato. Palme e tramonti sul lungomare segnano la fine del viaggio.

Walk among giant rounded granite boulders near Tennant Creek. The sunrise and sunset light makes the rocks glow red.
- Nitmiluk National Parknature
Take in Katherine Gorge by boat, canoe, or walking track. It is one of the route's best rewards after days of open road.
Avvisi di viaggio
Si tratta di un lungo viaggio remoto nell’outback: porta con te acqua extra, carburante e un kit per riparare gli pneumatici, ed evita di guidare di notte perché canguri, bovini e road trains sono comuni. La copertura telefonica può essere intermittente per lunghi tratti, quindi scarica le mappe e controlla le condizioni delle strade prima di partire.
